Conference of Parties 21, more commonly known as COP21, was a climate change conference in Paris that took place from November 30 to December 11 last year. This large gathering of over 196 countries was aimed at accomplishing a legally binding and unanimous agreement on climate change with the goal of keeping the rise in global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius.
Although there were tensions between countries such as the United States, China and India, and with the developed states reluctant to be more serious in the negotiations, nonetheless it was a success. The agreement will enter into force in 2020 after ratification by the legislative bodies of each country and will have to be sustainable to allow long-term alterations.
